MEDSOILS CHALLENGE, an Erasmus+ project dedicated to a crucial mission: boosting the skills and competencies of future soil experts to tackle climate change challenges in Mediterranean areas.
The need for innovative and sustainable solutions to protect our soils is urgent. Therefore, our project is focused on developing a new generation of professionals equipped with interdisciplinary training and an integrated approach.
Our Progress: An Innovative Master’s Program Under Development
The main result of our work is the design of a Joint International Master’s Degree in Soil Science and Sustainable Management. This program is strongly aligned with EU climate strategies and objectives, such as the Green Deal and the Soil Deal.
Our consortium, composed of four Higher Education Institutions and two technical partners from Italy, Spain, Slovenia, and Türkiye, is making rapid progress in defining the curriculum. Recently, on November 13, 2025, we held an in-person Focus Group in Ljubljana to refine the training needs analysis and the skills map.
Thinking of the Community: Flexibility and Collaboration
We understand that many of our future participants are working professionals. For this reason, we have designed the Master’s online training activities to be flexible, proposing that online lessons be held on Fridays and Saturdays. We will use the Moodle platform to host digital content, assessments, and tutoring tools.
Your Participation is Key! A Call to the Community
For the Joint International Master’s Degree to be successful and sustainable, we need the involvement of our community. We aim to attract highly motivated and talented students and professionals who are passionate about sustainability.
Here is how you can interact and collaborate in our upcoming activities:
- Follow Our Online Platform:
- The project website and our social media channels are active. We invite you to follow us for the latest news and results. The communication goal is to reach at least 400 relevant stakeholders in the fields of soil science, agronomy, ecology, and the fight against climate change.
- Participate in Our Promotional Events:
- We are preparing two online webinars and one in-person seminar, scheduled for March to May 2026. These events are essential to promote the launch of applications for the Master’s pilot edition and will be organized in collaboration with associated partners and relevant stakeholders.
- Mark your calendar! We will soon share a detailed program for these events.
- Share Your Vision and Experience:
- We are preparing a press release about the project and the Master’s. Furthermore, we seek to record short interviews/videos with key actors. If you have relevant experience in sustainable soil management and are interested in collaborating, please contact us!
The MEDSOILS CHALLENGE project is more than just a study program; it is a platform for collaboration and the exchange of ideas in the fight against soil deterioration.
We invite you to be part of this European challenge and help us shape the future of sustainable soil management in the Mediterranean!
